Belize JUNGLE Adventures

ABOUT

In Belize, we are blessed to live in a land rich in beauty and full of incredible wildlife. Make your way through our jungle lands and enjoy nature in its purest form.

Nearly two-thirds of the land here is thick jungle with nearly 30% protected as nature preserves and eighty percent of its rainforest remains protected, much of it not yet explored. Nature lovers will find unparalleled opportunities for adventure. We are home to approximately 145 species of mammals, well over 600 species of birds, and about 140 reptiles. If you stay in a Jungle lodge, adventure will be just a few steps away. Visitors can enjoy birdwatching, rafting, hiking, and luxuriating in waterfalls.

BELIZE WILDLIFE

While Belize is a small country, we have a large variety of wildlife living in a number of different habitats. The Belize’s jungles provide a home for tapirs, pumas, and numerous tropical birds, while the mountainous regions are home to jaguars and other beautiful large cats, and the grasslands and lowlands are home to rare waterfowl.

Belize is also home to the world’s first Jaguar Preserve, Cockscomb Basin Wildlife. This national treasure covers 128,000 acres, where all five species of cats from the Puma, Ocelot, Margay, Jaguar and the Jaguarondi can be found roaming freely. As do untold numbers of reptiles, birds and mammals. This is a definite “must visit” for nature lovers and is not far from Placencia in the south.

BELIZE BIRDING

Belize has six internationally recognized Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs).

The Cayo District in the west is one of Belize’s leading birding destinations. Here sightings include the King Vulture, Hepatic Tanager, Motmot, Keel-Billed Toucan, Stygian Owl and so much more. Visit the Mountain Pine Ridge so that you might spot the Red Crossbill or an Orange-breasted Falcon. Drive to Crooked Tree in the North and take a boat ride down the lagoon. It is home to numerous water birds. You can possibly spot the Jabiru Stork, known to be the largest flying bird in this hemisphere. Keep a sharp eye out for other wildlife such as crocodiles and spider monkeys.

Toledo, in the south of Belize, has almost 2000 square miles of rainforest, mountains, and rivers. It is the least visited and least developed region in the country. As such, Toledo is certainly not for the everyday tourist. However, for those with an adventurous spirit take the road less traveled, the natural and cultural diversity of Toledo makes a visit here truly unique. The land is home to some of the most pristine rainforest in the country.

BELIZE ZOO

Whether you are a lifelong wildlife lover or just want to learn something new, this animal preserve is a special place. It is home to exotic wildlife that have been rescued over the years. Enjoy intimate visits with jaguars, toucans, monkeys, tapirs, and much more.
